why Elder Taka is using crutches?

August 28,2017
So this week has been pretty fun. all the weeks kinda get merged together in my mind because we do the exact same thing every day and the weeks fly by. i feel like just yesterday i was emailing about last week. but this week was a blast. we laugh a ton here because me and my companion get along so well. so its hard to tell certain stories because i have so many that are funny. but i will just go through my week.

Monday: we emailed and played basketball and went shopping for food and yeah thats pretty much it.
Tuesday: we got 6 new investigators. we went tracking in an apartment complex and it was awesome. we met some really cool people. we met a future NFL player, he plays arena football now. his name is Max Davis. so look out for him.
Wednesday: we dropped an investigator. haha. he just bashed with us and he tried telling us that we didnt believe in the doctrine and covenants. but our church literally wrote that book, so thats weird. but yeah he said he is trying to save us and that he is already perfect. so we literally just started breaking out laughing in the middle of the lesson and said sorry we arent going to come back. haha. good times
Thursday: we had specialized training and that was fun because all of the new guys were there so i got to see all my mtc buds. and my old companion. we talk to each other every now and then.
Friday:i went on exchanges with elder rhinehart and we biked sooo far. i thought i was going to die. and then we rode to walmart after we got home and that was like another mile. and right when i get to walmart i hear air leaking out of my tire. and i guess i ran over some glass so my tire had a hole in it and it went flat. but luckily walmart has everything and i bought the stuff to fix the tire and everything was all good and we made it back home safe and sound.
Satruday: this was probably the most fun day i have had out here on the mission. and thats because there was a huge car show going on like 1 minute away from our apartment. so we got to volunteer in it. and we had like VIP access and we drove around golf carts and it was awesome. but there was 500 cars there. everything from like the first cars ever made to hot rods to regular cars to super cars. it was so sick. so i have alot of pictures of cars for this week. we got to sit in the cars and take pictures. and we passed out so many cards while we were there to people. and alot of the car owners live in Carmel (my city) because everyone is fetching rich here. so they said we could come over and check out all of there cars and maybe go on drives and drive them (dont tell president). haha. but yes Saturday was sooo awesome.
Sunday: CHEAT DAY!!!!! so alot of you guys dont know this but since i have been out. i havent eaten sugar. my companion (elder allred) is super big into lifting weights and being healthy. so i have joined him in doing so. so i havent eaten sugar since i have been out here. so all the sugar and junk food i have gotten in my package we have saved and we went and bought more stuff too. but we ate almost all of it yesterday. it was soooooo much. i think i died... twice. but we counted up all the sugar and it was like over 1200 grams of sugar that we ate. we threw up so much that night and we still dont feel the best. haha but now we dont even want to touch sugar, let alone eat it. so i guess it works out. but my teeth hurt super bad. but church was fun and we snacked all through out church. the members thought it was funny. we are starting to get to know the members more now. and they have noticed that me and my companion are always laughing and having a good time. so they come and talk to us more and they noticed that we really get along so thats good.
but yeah that was my day. everyday we work out and eat food and teach people and when we arent doing those three things we are preparing our selves for the day to teach people. i love being out on the mission and having one purpose. and that is to help bring heavenly fathers kids back to him and help them come closer to Jesus Christ. i love my job. i love coming closer to Christ myself. im sorry my emails suck and they arent entertaining. just know that i am constantly having a good time out here in Indiana. i am always laughing. i am so grateful for my companion and the good memories we have made. but i love you guys. ill put a couple pictures up here but i will put the rest on my google drive of all the cars and stuff i saw. im sorry mom i keep forgetting to take pictures of the city i am in. think of downtown Gilbert and the stores and restaurants right there on the road. that is like downtown Carmel. it looks exactly the same. that is where we spend most of our time.

So this week has just been an average week here in Indiana. nothing special has happened. I don't really ever no what to say in these emails. like we do the exact same stuff every day. and the days are flying by and i can never remember what i even did the day before. like it feels like i was emailing just yesterday. but i am loving Indiana.

Monday: well last p day i emailed and then we played ball as usual. I'm not very good but i am one of the taller missionaries out here which is kinda weird so i can get all the rebounds which is pretty cool and i stuff people for days. we went to GNC and i bought more protein so that was fun. you can never have to much protein. but i have enough to last me a quarter of my mission right now. haha

Tuesday: we had three return appointments and all of them fell through. none of them answered the door. it is super hard to teach lessons here because we can never get inside the house. we teach a ton of door step restoration lessons so i have those down and they usually are really accepting of that but then they never want to learn more and shut us down after that. we also helped someone move and i will tell more of that story on Thursday.

Wednesday: i was on exchanges with Elder Taka. he is a big Tongan dude. i love him.  we met a girl named Danielle and she seemed super interested but we tried her again on Thursday and she was busy so that fell threw.

Thursday. the lady we helped move called us and asked for more help and we went and did that. and she is a single mother who has had a rough life and she said we were her answers to her prayers and she bore her testimony with out even knowing it. and she was in tears and the spirit was so strong so she said we can come back and talk to her about our church. so she will be an awesome lady to work with.

Friday. played some tennis with some recent converts. we are really starting to grow on this couple which is good.

Sat. : went to costco with a member (Bro Lambert) super cool dude. he is the member that has a gym in his house so we work out with him. and we bought more protein.

Sunday. elder Gifford Nielsen of the 70 was at our stake conference. and he said it takes a broken cloud to make rain, a broken ground to make grain, a broken grain to make bread, and a broken bread to always remember him. god loves broken stuff. Jesus Christ was broken when performing the atonement. he is here to help us in our broken state.

but a solid week. i love Indiana. i love missionary work. i love my companion. while i was sleeping he flips me and my bed over and i hit our night stand so hard. so the next night i did it to him. haha we just do things to keep us entertained. that was random but kinda funny. i love you guys thanks for everything.

Hey Greenie

Elder Turley got a Greenie package!!  Someone is taking care of him.
I think just as this was sent he let us know he was going sugar free. Ooh Well!!

2 week in Indiana - I am in Missionary Mode now

This is what Carmel, Indiana looks like
The apartment is close to down town and there are often festivals,
concerts and art shows that take place.

Elder Turley and Elder Rhinehart

Wearing Elder Taka's Clothes

Elder Turley and Elder Brunson (also a newbie)

i dont even know how to start these emails. time is flying by and i cant even really remember what we did yesterday. we do about the same thing every day.

but this week we were really trying to focus on trying to meet the inactive peeps in the ward and trying to get them to come to ward conference. so every night we have a member of the ward come with us and we go and knock on the doors of the inactive people. there are like 100 people that we have to go by. so unfortunatly we didnt get to them all but we stopped by alot and we had a pretty good turn out in church and had a lot of less actives there for class. so we got a good pat on the back from the stake president for raising the numbers.

last week we got 5 new investigtors but when we went to teach them this week none of them answered or we couldnt get a hold of them. so thats a bummer. but we got 6 new investigators this week so hopefully we will have better luck with following up and teaching more lessons.

my goal this week for myself was to talk more in my lessons and try and lead them. and i did just that. my trainer let me be in charge of the lessons and taking the door approaches. and it was awesome. i have gotten way more confident in my teaching. on monday night we talk a recent convert and we were teaching her the new member lessons. and we had to teach her the commandments (chastity, word of wisdom and tithing). and i was in charge of the lessons and it was the best i have ever taught so far and it was my first time ever teaching those things. my trainer was amazed and so were the members whose home it was in. they kept asking me "are you sure this was your first time teaching that?" so it was fun. my companion really thinks i am going to end up training next transfer which is really rare but he is sooo positive that its going to happen.

so this elder who came out with me. elder brunson. he is in the area right next to me. so we went on exchanges and my companion trusted me to take him into our area so it was two new guys for the day. and we went to go tracting and knock some doors. and elder brunson says to me "ive never been tracting" i was shocked. so i had to teach him how to tract. it was weird going from the one being taught to the one teaching. but it was a very humbling experience. and it was good to see how good my trainer has been to me so i could be good enough to teach him.

but other than these things nothing else has really happened. i didnt even realize that i hit my one month mark until i was writing in my journal that night and i was like hey its been a month. so its crazy how time flies and i am in missionary mode now and so focused on the work. i love it. i can definetly feel myself changing into a better man already. i love my savior and everything that he has done for me and continues to do for me. i love this gospel and i love to see how it blesses the life of others.  thanks for everything. i love you guys.
